Prof Stephanie Wong

Stephanie is an experienced professional with 30 years of expertise in direct investment, merger & acquisitions, business development and corporate finance. Throughout her career, she has played a pivotal role in leading the development of new businesses, overseeing the acquisitions of various operational assets and taking companies public on different stock exchanges.

 

Stephanie serves CityU as adjunct professor at the Academy of Innovation, mentoring startups under the GRIT program. She also served as evaluation panellist for the University’s HKTech 300 program.

 

In 2017, Stephanie transitioned into an angel investor, focusing on technology start-ups. Additionally, she began providing advisory services to local I&T companies. Stephanie’s passion for making a positive impact led her to become one of the founding members of Gravity Capital Partners Co. Ltd., an impact investment initiative in Hong Kong. As a Venture Partner at Gravity, Stephanie has reviewed and evaluated hundreds of local I&T projects and recommended investment for 12 projects.

 

Stephanie’s extensive professional background includes serving as Head of Group Business Development at Melco International Development Limited for over a decade where she was responsible for strategic expansion of the group’s gaming business and development of non-gaming businesses. She successfully secured casino licenses in Barcelona and Cyprus, orchestrated the injection of a Russian gaming project into a HK listed company, and developed and listed China lottery business for the Group.

 

Additionally, she was involved in the listing of the group’s ski resorts investment portfolio on the Toronto Stock Exchange, and oversaw the management and operation as COO of the ski resort business during a secondment.

 

Prior to that, she was one of the originating members of HUTCHMED China. She was heavily involved in market research on the Traditional Chinese Medicine (“TCM”) industry in China, developed healthcare joint ventures with renowned TCM companies, and prepared proposals for the development of the Chinese Medicine Port concept in Hong Kong. The Hutchison healthcare investments portfolio was eventually listed on the UK Alternative Investment Market (AIM), Nasdaq, and the HK Stock Exchange.

 

Stephanie has also held positions at Fortune Oil Company Limited as a Manager of Infrastructure Investment, where she concluded an aviation oil supply joint venture for 16 airports in Southern China, and at Invesco Asia Limited as a Finance Analyst, responsible for setting up a direct investment fund in Dalian, PRC. Additionally, she has worked as a Consultant in the Business Advisory Group at Arthur Andersen & Co..

 

Overall, her extensive experience and expertise in business development, corporate finance, and strategic planning make her well-equipped to provide valuable insights and guidance to startups and growth companies.
